Men of both Regiments of the Household Cavalry dress similarly,
but quite distinctively, when on non-ceremonial duties, and on active service.

The uniforms described hereunder are as per Standing Orders for
the Household Cavalry Regiment.

(no Whistle).

Breeches of Regimental pattern.

ORs Riding Boots stained Brown (LG), Officers' Field Boots (RHG/D)
with Regimental Spurs.

Brown Leather Gloves, LG or RHG/D RCM's Whip.

Red or Blue Lanyard (Sword if ordered).

Barrack Dress Order (Summer)

Service Dress Cap, LG Officers' pattern shirt (LG), Light Beige 'uniformal' Shirt (RHG/D),
open at the neck with sleeves rolled up above the elbow.

Red or Blue Lanyard, Stable Belt, Service Dress Trousers, Beige Socks,
Brown Leather Shoes.

Brown Leather Pig Skin Wristband with Gilt Rank Badge (LG), Black Pig Skin (RHG/D).

LG or RHG/D RCM's Whip.

When wearing a Sam Browne Belt in this Order, RHG/D do not wear the Cross Strap.

A Forage Cap is worn when wearing a Sam Browne Belt.

Overalls, Wellington Boots and Spurs, Short White Gloves, RCM's Whip.

Blue Patrol Trousers may be worn (without turn ups) on suitable occasions,
with Black Shoes.

General Notes

Berets

HC Badge

A Household Division Flash will be sewn onto the Beret, as a backing for the Badge.

Embroidered Regimental Badges will be worn on the Beret.

Greatcoats

ORs pattern Greatcoat with Dark Brown Leather Buttons and Gilt Rank Badges.

Badges Of Rank

These are to be Gilt, and RHG/D are to have a Black Felt Backing.

Lanyards

Red Lanyard worn on right shoulder (LG), Blue Lanyard worn on left shoulder (RHG/D).

They are worn with the knot close to the relevant breast pocket, and
the end tucked in (not looped), and secured.

Household Cavalry Regiment Soldiers

(Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment)

No 2 Dress

Forage cap, No 2 dress jacket and trousers, boots combat (shoes if issued).


No 2 Dress shirt with green woollen tie. RHG/D soldiers wear a white lanyard
on the left shoulder.


RHG/D WOs wear a cream 'uniformal' shirt, beige woollen tie and a blue lanyard
on the left arm. LG WOs wear an issue WOs shirt and beige woollen tie.

of 1800 and 0600 hrs).

with sleeves rolled down (tucked in), Green Belt (58 pattern Web Belt
Officers and WOs only), Boots CAB.

Field Jackets to be worn at all times.

Gortex Jackets may be worn in inclement weather, and issue Black/Green Gloves
may be worn if cold.

Sentries are excused wearing a Belt when they are wearing CBA.

Guard Order (Summer)

Beret, Combat Trousers, Combat Shirt open at the neck and with sleeves
rolled up above the elbow (sleeves are to be rolled down between the hours
of 1800 and 0600 hrs).

Green Belt (58 pattern Web Belt Officers and WO's only), Boots CAB.

Field Jackets are to be worn between the hours of 1800 and 0600, and
at any other times if cold - at the discretion of the Guard Commander
(all the Guard are to be dressed the same).

Gortex Jackets may be worn in inclement weather.

Sentries are excused wearing a belt when they are wearing CBA.

Civilian Clothes

Soldiers are permitted to wear Civilian Clothes both in and out of barracks.

Dress, which will be appropriate to the activity on which the soldier is engaged,
will always be clean and tidy wherever the soldier may be.

Medals

All Medals are to be 'Court Mounted', and Scarlet backed.

Berets

A Household Division Flash is to be sewn onto Berets as a backing for the Cap badge.

Airborne and Commando Berets are only to be worn in Combat Order by those entitled.

The Brass LG Regimental Badge or the Bronze RHG/D Regimental Badge will be worn -
with the exception of RHG/D WOs, who will wear a Gilt Household Cavalry Badge.

Forage Cap

Brass of Stay Bright Household Cavalry Badge - with the exception of WOs,

RHG/D No 1 / No 2 / Mess Dress Jackets

B&R Eagle

An embroidered Eagle will be worn on the left arm, 8 cms below the sleeve seam.

Stable Belts

LG worn with Buckle over the left hip.

LG Stable Belt

RHG/D worn with Buckle centre front.

Ends of straps are to be tucked in and the leather darkened to Dark Brown.

Lanyards

White Lanyard

Worn by RHG/D Trooper to Staff Corporal on left shoulder of No 2 Dress Jacket.

Blue Lanyard

Worn by RHG/D WOs on left shoulder of No 2 Dress Jacket.

Lanyards are worn on the left shoulder with the knot close to the breast pocket,
and the end passed straight into the pocket (not looped) and secured.

Whips

The following rules apply to the carrying of whips . . .

Lance Corporal to Corporal of Horse

Yellow stained Regimental pattern Whip. Only to be carried by Drill Instructors
when teaching drill and in Drill Order, and all NCOs when wearing No 1 Dress.

Staff Corporals

Yellow stained Regimental pattern Whip when in Drill Order or No 1 Dress.

Squadron Corporal Majors

Mk 4 Whip covered in Brown Leather (LG) or Black Leather RHG/D.

A Brass embellishment may be worn on the end of the Whip.

Divisional Flashes

A 7cm square Household Division DZ Flash is to be worn on all DPM Jackets and Shirts
(CS 95, Temperate, Tropical and Desert) on the upper right sleeve.

Div Flash

The 3 UK Division Flash is to be worn on Field Jackets and Smocks only on the upper left sleeve.

Union Flags

A small Union Flag is to be worn on all DPM Jackets and Shirts (CS 95, Temperate,
Tropical and Desert) on the upper right sleeve above the Household Division Flash.

Name Tags

Are to be worn on Field Jackets, Smocks and Coveralls.

Spectacles

Only spectacles with clear lenses may be worn in military uniform.
Photochromatic or mirror lenses will not be worn in uniform.

Light-sensitive lenses may be allowed with a prescription only.

Regimental Provost Staff

Are to wear Combat Order - see Combat/Working Order (Winter), and
Combat/Working Order (Summer) earlier - with a Regimental pattern RP armband
on the right arm.

Boots

Combat Assault Boots (CAB)

Only CAB are to be worn in barracks.

Pro Boots/Matterhorn Boots

May be worn out of barracks on training/exercise/operations.

Boots Hot Weather/Boots Jungle

May be worn out of barracks on training/exercise/operations.

Hi Tec boots

These boots are not to be worn.

Windproof/Para Smocks

Smocks are only to be worn when out of barracks on training/exercise/operations.
They are to have the correct Badges and Insignia sewn on to them.

They are not to be worn in barracks.

Tropical/Desert Combats

These are only to be worn when issued for a specific exercise or operation.

They are to have the correct Badges and Insignia sewn on them.

Fleece Jackets

These may be worn when cold - however, they are only to be worn
underneath a Field Jacket/Smock.

Civilian 'Softie' Jackets

Civilian 'Softie' type Jackets are only to be worn when out of barracks on training/exercise/operations, and only worn underneath a Field Jacket/Smock.

They are not to be worn in barracks.
