The uniforms of the Household Cavalry - especially Ceremonial - are unique, and best explained by the
combined use of explanations and illustrations.

Men of both Regiments of the Household Cavalry dress similarly, but quite distinctively,
when on non-Ceremonial duties, and on Active Service.

This section deals with some of the component parts of the Ceremonial dress, familiar around the world
thanks to The Queen's Life Guard, Escorts, and the many Ceremonial Parades in which
the Household Cavalry participate.

Frock Coats

Officers of The Life Guards

The coat is made from dark blue face cloth.
The collar is edged with black worsted lace and decorated with black tracing braid of Regimental pattern.

Black tracing braid, also of Regimental pattern, adorns the sleeves to a distance of 12 inches from the bottoms of the cuffs.

The loops across the front of the coat are of 1.25 inch black worsted lace, double width,
two black netted olivets on each loop.

The front edges, side body seams and hind-arm seams have the same lace laid on, whilst that
for the shoulder straps is but 1/2 inch wide.

Black netted buttons fasten the straps. 1.25 inch lace is used to decorate the rear of the coat, in a design
especial to the Regiment, with olivets and a fringe, at waist level and each of the five vertical rows of lace
terminates in a black tassel. The coat is lined with black silk.

Officers of The Blues And Royals

While similar to that of The Life Guards, the coat has differences of detail regarding the decoration.

The collar and sleeves have black tracing braid of Regimental pattern.

The front edges, side body seams, hind-arm seams and other lacework at the rear of the coat is edged with
black tracing braid, in a design especial to the Regiment, with olivets and a fringe, at waist level.

Unlike The Life Guards, the five vertical rows of lace each end with a design of black tracing braid, and only the outer
and centre rows are further embellished with a black tassel.
