Royal Star and Garter Homes
WW1 Battlefields Trek
to commemorate the Centenary of the start of the FIrst World War

The three-day sponsored trek takes place in September 2014, walking through
Northern France and Belgium. It is a physical challenge and also provides participants
with as unique perspective of prominent battle sites of the Ypres Salient, often tracing
the line of the Western Front itself.

The Royal Star and Garter Homes is a charity founded in 1916 to care for the
severly injured young men returning from the battlegrounds of the First World War.
Back then the average age of residents was 22 . . . today it is 87. Although the care
needs have changed, the Charity's mission remains to provide brilliant nursing and
therapeutic care for the whole military family, in comfortable state-of-the-art homes.
Today they provide brilliant care to the whole military family in their friendly, modern
and comfortable homes. Disabled ex-Service men and women, and their partners,
can all benefit from their pioneering approach to nursing and therapeutic care.
The home - which since 1916 has been located in RIchmond - has relocated to
a purpose-built site in the heart of Surbiton.

The Trek participants will be supporting The Royal Star and Garter Homes in its mission
to continue caring for those who bravely served, in their own time of need
